Having lived with visions for most of her life, Marianne Waters knows the consequences of ignoring them and trying to change them, as well as trying to convince others of her abilities. When she foresees the death of her daughter’s best friend, things come to a head and Marianne is convinced they must move and using several different techniques, she chooses St. Louis as their new home.
Volunteering at one of the local hospitals, Marianne soon finds herself part of a group of women with similar abilities as she has. Certain events as well as conversations with a few of those women have her questioning the beliefs that she has always held about her abilities. When Jean, one of the women in their group, is murdered, Marianne is in the think of the investigation and gets to know the investigating officer…a man her daughter foresees as being her lover. Can things get any more complicated?
Touch of Fate is a twisting, turning tale of a woman who truly wants to find peace within herself but doesn’t know how. She moves herself and her daughter across the country with the firm belief that she’s doing what is preordained and not something she can really control. Meeting other women with similar abilities and seeing how they interact and react to their abilities makes her question what she’s come to believe is fate. Jean’s death is a blow she doesn’t expect and her relationship with Detective Derek Richards is another unexpected confusion and only forces Marianne to once again examine her beliefs. Marianne fluctuates about her thoughts in a very true to life process that is refreshing to behold. Ms. Amsden has taken an approach to the paranormal that is believable and thrown in suspense, a little action and some sizzle and written an engaging story with a Touch of Fate.
