This story is haunting. Fresh and cold as death, Dark Roads feels like stepping off the pavement of your safe side street right into the "Twilight Zone".
The author has driven us into a thick fog on a mountain top in Scotland, riding along on a bus with a handful of real to life characters, who are each nursing their very own problems on the long ride home.
Suddenly the bus breaks down, and the reader realizes that "we're no longer in Kansas, Toto." It's then every man for himself as the passengers are forced to seek refuge in a nearby sleepy village, along a very dark and strange country road, until help arrives.
What faces each passenger is so personally horrifying, it will have you sitting on the edge of your seat yelling "don't go in there!" and "don't let go!" One by one, the passengers have to face their own nightmares, from the twisted menace of a church to the mind boggling stampede of a man dressed in green and surrounded by the all knowing fog.
Dark Roads is a quick read, full of intimate danger and enigma that will leave you thanking your proverbial gods that it's just a story! Yes, that's right, keep repeating, "it's just a story, it's not real!"
Highly recommended and satisfying, you will find an odd peace in the graveyard of J.G. Craig's mind, as Dark Roads
JG Craig has one heck of a talent for writing! Haunting, intimate danger; fantastically real characters and very normal progression of thoughts and dialogue. Dark Roads puts your fears into words, and I'm so very glad I didn't have to live it in reality!
I give Dark Roads a 4 1/2 cat rating and know you'll really enjoy this story.
Rating: 4.5 Cats
