Of Lilies
In a state of half awareness, where his eyes are closed yet he isn't fully awake or asleep, Martin listens to the sounds of his house, believes something makes the house breathe, live. Something otherworldly hovers in the airunseen but there just the same. Martin drifts to a secret place in his mind, where he is in controlor so he thinks. The perfume of lilies prevalent in the air, he moves through astral woodlands towards a woman, who seems to call him to her.
On he goes, meets and speaks with the womanthe woman of his dreams, perfection itself. Yet is she? Is she solely his dream woman, or does she have other aspects he hasn't yet been aware of? Her own thoughts, desires, and feelings? Martin is usually in full control of his astral journeys. Will he remain in control this time, or will the beautiful woman surround him with her sensuous aura and become something totally different to what Martin has been used to so far?
Of Liliesthe first story in a set of twois a wonderful find for readers who like a more literary bent on their reading matter. Rich with beautiful words, vivid images are brought to mind with a dream-like flow. I enjoyed this story very much and look forward to reading more from F.R.R. Mallory should s/he write a literary book.
Cherie
A sex columnist, Cherie has been doing research on the succubus. She's discovered that maybe the scent of, or the lily flower itself, is what draws men to them. While out in town, Cherie ponders on this when she sees a man buying lilies, and secretly has a giggle at the thought of her Succubus research. Her attention gets diverted from him when she is shoved from behind and finds herself sprawled on the ground. The lily buyer comes to her aid, and Cherie feels guilt at laughing to herself about him.
Shaken by her fall, she goes to a small bistro with her rescuer for a cup of tea. However, the cafe isn't all it appears, and behind the shop front is a private meditation service run by the cafe owner's wife.
Cherie finds herself experiencing something quite unlike anything she's done before...
A most enjoyable pair of stories written in two vastly different voices, which gave me the opportunity to taste two sides of F.R.R. Mallory's writing ability. I must say I am impressed by the polished air of both works. Lovely to read something of obvious quality.
