It was difficult for me to get into Invasion Earth at first but by the time I reached the second chapter my interest was held enough so that it kept me reading.
The central story revolves around the romance between Delroi's General Alrik Torfa and Sergeant Major Laney Bradford. Laney is the strategist for Earth's army and currently at war with Delroi’s Army. When Alrik senses that, his heartmate is indeed Laney he negotiates an immediate cease fire to begin arrangements of a peace treaty.
However, unbeknownst to Laney along with what is to her, her inexplicable attraction for the enemy General is that she is part of the deal.
Delroi needs women to continue their race. And they came to Earth in hopes of finding their heartmates. Another problem that arises between Alrik and Laney is the role of women, which differs greatly between Earth and Delroi.
I liked the strength and power of Laney's character but there wasn't enough about Alrik to get me to form an opinion, favorable or otherwise. This had me worried about the pairing between the two because I wondered just how much of herself that Laney would have to give up in becoming Alrik's heartmate. I understand the sex and connection part of the story but I wanted more. The sex scenes were sensual and packed a bit of heat but I like and expect more steam and eroticism in the erotic romances I read. Another slight problem was the use of sex to increase, enhance the bond between Alrik and Laney. I would have liked to know more about them as individuals and as a couple in addition to their well-formed and defined sexual relationship.
I wish there had been more of an opportunity to develop Alrik's world of Delroi. Invasion Earth took me longer to read than it should have given the length of the story. For me, the story would have worked better as a longer piece because I was definitely intrigued by the story. I was disappointed when it ended, not because I was sad to finish a great and interesting story but because I wanted to learn more.
Several of the details of the story were too glossed over and unfinished for my taste. All in all, the story held my interest throughout but it felt more like an unfinished novel than short story to me.

Rating: 3 Cats
