"To write what is worth publishing,
to find honest people to publish it,
and get sensible people to read it,
are the three greatest difficulties of an author"

‘WARNING - Remember to Breathe’ should be posted on the cover of this story so readers are prepared when they launch into the adventure called Dragon’s Mate. This tale is definitely not for the shy, meek or anemic. One is immediately caught up in the rapid pace of this intriguing story. Emma Petersen has crafted this imaginative tale so it plays at a frenzied beat. The sexual tension builds as Maya and her mate Eric, members of a Dragon Kin Clan, repeatedly make passionate love due to Maya being in her season for mating with time running out. Is this accelerated coupling actually due to the fact that they are still deeply devoted to each other as mates? Maya is not ready to believe so due to the unpleasant circumstances surrounding their former time together.

Emma continues to weave a web of uncertainty, by cleverly creating a smoke screen to conceal Eric’s true motivations. We therefore share Maya’s feelings as she fights the rage and passion that threatens to consume her. Those fiery intimate feelings are swiftly overtaken, then replaced with a deep longing that entices her to hope for a future together, before she is again plunged into rage. The dramatic fluctuations hurl this story forward with great intensity, making it impossible to avoid getting caught up in the tumultuous events.

When Maya again doubts Eric’s true intentions after a Born for Metal Primul arrives to annihilate her, she is thrust into believing he was sent by Eric to end her life. This threatens to destroy the fragile relationship she thought they had forged. Devastated, she escapes and flees to her safe haven home in California. Enroute she is overwhelmed with morning sickness, validating her pregnancy. The reality forces her to come to terms with the fact that she and Eric conceived another hatchling. This conjures up the horrid memory of her tragic miscarriage resulting from their first bout of mating.

With swirling thoughts in her head, shock grips Maya when she walks into her house to discover her best friend Kaida with Eric, looking a little too comfortable together. Maya’s temper rages in harmony with her hormones when she senses betrayal, before banishing Kaida from her house and life.

Somewhat jarringly, the story picks up a year later when Kaida’s brother Ry calls searching for his missing sister that has apparently disappeared under questionable circumstances. Their new daughter has quickly become the center of the universe for Maya and Eric, but another adventure seems ready to begin when they pledge to find Kaida.
