Waking the Shadows is separated into two short stories of the same characters, the first being "Seeking Shadows".
Arielle, an FBI agent who uses her witchcraft skills to fight crime, is walking through a Louisiana bog with her partner as they track down a demon. The shack up ahead with the yellow glow from the windows is their target.
The man at her side is Jackson, a vampire with his own experience of handling beings from other worlds. He is anxious to charge in and subdue whatever demonic forces they may find.
This time, however, Arielle and Jackson are in over their heads and fighting forces that may easily take them down. Despite the danger, the sexual tension is thick and these two unconventional good guys are about to take a step beyond FBI protocol.
"Waking the Dreamer"
Arielle is coming to terms with the strangeness of the man lying beside her. The years spent together in battle can't touch the bond that just a few moments of lovemaking have created between them.
This morning something is dreadfully wrong. She can't wake Jackson, and in order to save him, Arielle will have to attempt to enter a forbidden state called a Dreamwalk.
These two erotic stories are fairly well written, well edited, and easy to read. Arielle is much like any one of us, with a humorous sarcastic internal dialogue. The author reveals her through her thoughts comfortably.
The subject of the supernatural is written with credibility. I even found myself pleasantly surprised at the power of the young witch, and cheering her on.
This is light fiction, quick to read, with a satisfying sexual encounter. I recommend it.
