"To write what is worth publishing,
to find honest people to publish it,
and get sensible people to read it,
are the three greatest difficulties of an author"

Title: Office Relations
Author: Lia Sebastian
Publisher: Cobblestone Press
Genre: Contemporary/Erotica
ISBN Number: 1-60088-008-8
Release date: June 2006

Office Relations is a story involving Sabrina, who finds herself working on a project with Peter, a young, hot-shot businessman. She is instantly drawn to him but does not dare approach him about her feelings. Likewise, Peter harbours his own feelings for Sabrina but does not have the confidence to confide in her about his attraction to her.

The two eventually get together, but their relationship is instantly strained by Sabrina's secret. Her father is the head of the company. Is Peter after a connection to the top? Or does Sabrina want to impress her father by latching onto the go-getter? What will their co-workers think when the relationship is revealed?

I appreciated the language Lia Sebastian used in the story. It is extremely down to earth and flows smoothly. Without overbearing descriptions, the story has a terrific pace. With the book being a mere forty-one pages, it is short enough to read in a single sitting but has enough meat to sink your teeth into.

What I liked best was Sebastian's use of POV. The reader hops between the heads of the two lovers, knowing what each thinks of the other as events progress. The thoughts hit harder than the actions, adding a real depth to the developing story.

A tale of this genre will inevitably contain sex scenes. I was concerned that this story would dive into another porn story. But Sebastian handles it well, finding the right balance. The scenes are realistic yet not too graphic.

In summary, this is an interesting story combining the two complicated worlds of office politics and unrequited love. The characters are compelling and realistic, as is their plight. This is perfect for reading on your dinner hour, although I wouldn't recommend it if you work in an office. You might to start to look at your co-workers in a very different light!
