From the first line of Lord of the Moon, the author, Ms. Vigil, held my attention. I felt immediate sympathy for the heroine, Princess Nikkah, who at ten years old was a sacrificial lamb to Sihn, Lord of the Moon. Lord Sihn is the god who watches over the city of Ur-Haman. Princess Nikkah is gifted to Lord Sihn to be his high priestess, providing a link between the god and the city.

While this is a short story, I was drawn into the characters. I found myself hoping that Ms. Vigil will later expand this story so I can read more about their backgrounds and motivations. Lord Sihn, in particular, intrigued me. He's a dark, powerful god, yet he is drawn to the innocent Princess Nikkah and bonds with her even though he is immortal and she is human.

The second Bites story's heroine is Nyssa, Sihn and Nikkah's daughter. Nyssa is grown and desires a city of her own to lead and guide as its goddess. Her father advises her to find a mortal champion who will fight for her and obtain the city over which she can rule. In finding her hero, Nyssa also finds love and fulfillment.

I enjoyed the world that Ms. Vigil created. Her prose is smooth, sensual and lyrical. The stories flow well, and I hope to read more about this compelling world of gods and goddesses that the author has created.
