In the introduction to this collection of nineteen erotic stories, author John Enex tells the reader that he believes sex is a powerful force. After reading his stories, it's obvious he knows what he's talking about. With a mix of humor, raw sex, wistfulness and even a bit of retribution, this collection easily held my interest. Several in particular caught my attention.
In "Careful What You Wish For," Mr. Enex blends erotica with humor, and advises the reader to hold her own counsel should a lover plead for details from her intimate past. If details are shared between lovers, both parties should be prepared to suffer the possible consequences.
"When It Comes My Time" is a lovely, sexy tale of remembrance. Everyone has that one person, that one encounter that lingers in the memory. Perhaps even to their dying day.
Who among us has never wondered 'what if' about an old romantic partner? In "Second Chance," the hero gets the opportunity to rekindle sparks with an old flame. Will he take it? Will she be receptive? Interestingly, the hero is a cop and the heroine is a hooker. This story is both very sexy and sweet.
In "The Husband Game" a cheating husband routinely screws around with the unhappy wives of the community's business leaders. He egotistically tells himself that he satisfies each and every one of them. His wife, however, is a different story, since he expends all of his energy on other women. He's surprised to find out that his activities may not be as secret as he first believed.
"Swenson's Transfer" takes place on a Navy destroyer. Mate Swenson requests a transfer to an all-male ship, unable to deal with all the females on board. One particular petty officer, however, changes his mind when she privately visits him off-duty.
Mr. Enex's brash sexuality rings true. His writing draws the reader into the action, and, in certain stories, the emotions of the characters. His characters are well written and fully realized, not caricatures. I found these short stories to be both sexy and involving.
Reading erotica written from a male point of view is unique. A woman gets a glimpse of what a man may want from a relationship, and it just might not always be what she would expect. Sometimes, the man also wants love....not just sex. If you are a fan of erotica, Flowers is a must-read.
