Charlene "Charly" Randall is a hard working woman who just has the worst luck with relationships. One day, Charly recognizes Channel Nine's new sports anchor as the secret crush she had in school. She implements a plan to get Maxwell Harrington's attention and win him over. While researching the news, she finds an Internet article on Ten Ways to Melt a Man's Heart and decides that it's the way to make Max notice her.
Damien Giovanni is Charly's next-door neighbor, but he's not on her list of possible husband material. She's marked him as a playboy, as well as having a distinct taste in women, none of which fit Charly. Late one night, Damien saves her from a mugging, and gradually, her personal dislike of him grows into a tentative friendship, despite his playboy ways.
Damien's previous relationships have left him more than a little cautious about letting anyone close enough to know him intimately. Now, he's ready to find the right woman. When he thinks Charly could be the one he's been looking for, caution takes over, making Damien incapable of telling her about his past and his ruined friendship with Max. His reluctance to be completely honest about whom he is sets up the inevitable downfall.
Ten Ways To Melt A Man's Heart is a well paced, hard-to-put down story. This was an enjoyable read about a woman who just wants to be accepted for who she is. Disaster and humor follow her attempts to win Max, taking Charly on quite a ride. When feelings for Max begin to blend with the growing friendship she has with Damien, her life becomes more complicated. Her frustration grows as each attempt to get Max's attention ends in failure. Damien becomes her confidante, the one who seems to have the answers to her problems with Max. His continued support and aid in her quest for a relationship with Max is endearing.
The story is colorful and captures the essence of wealth and eclectic taste, as the reader is taken from the pending holiday season of San Diego to the snow-covered mountains of Colorado. The characters are well written and felt like everyday people. Charly is a protagonist with a normal job and real life problems so readers can relate to her. Ten Ways to Melt A Man's Heart is an enjoyable read.
